The EU Ecolabel: Promoting sustainable consumer choices

We don't know about you, but in an environmentally conscious age, we are increasingly looking for products and services that align with our values of sustainability. But making a conscious choice can quickly seem overwhelming with the huge variety of products on the market. So how great is it that there are organisations whose whole purpose is to award certifications that make it easier to buy sustainable products?  The Ecolabel of the European Union (EU), for example, serves as a reliable guide for informed purchasing decisions and helps us to reduce our own ecological footprint. We are delighted that many of our products are certified with the EU Ecolabel.

Understanding the EU Ecolabel

Launched in 1992, the EU Ecolabel is a voluntary eco-labelling scheme managed by the European Commission. It labels and certifies products and services that have a lower environmental impact throughout their life cycle. The label covers a wide range of categories, including cleaning products, personal care products, textiles, household appliances and accommodation. It ensures that certified products meet strict environmental and performance criteria, and promote sustainable production, resource efficiency, waste reduction and low greenhouse gas emissions.

Strengthening consumer trust

The EU Ecolabel offers consumers a trustworthy and recognisable symbol that guarantees the environmental performance of a product or service. Companies also show their commitment to sustainability by putting products through the certification process. Through strict criteria and constant monitoring, the EU Ecolabel ensures that products meet the highest environmental standards. This builds trust with consumers and enables them to support companies that prioritise sustainability.

Ecolabel in practice

One of the EU Ecolabel certified products in our portfolio is our mild hand soap. It is gentle on the skin, fragrance-free and contains over 98% biodegradable ingredients. The raw materials contained are subject to careful selection, depending on their toxicological and ecotoxicological profile. The formula is designed to minimise impact on aquatic ecosystems by conforming to strict biodegradability requirements. To complete the picture, the packaging has also been optimised here to achieve a reduction in the volume of waste. This is what sustainability looks like for us!

Driving market change

In addition, one of the most important impacts of the EU Ecolabel is its ability to drive market transformation. By incentivising companies to improve the sustainability of their products, the label stimulates innovation and competition in the market. As consumer demand for environmentally friendly alternatives increases, more and more companies are striving to meet the strict criteria for the EU Ecolabel award. This is leading to increased development of greener technologies, more sustainable supply chains and the general adoption of environmentally friendly practices across all sectors. And that's a development we'd all like to see.
