21 Hand sanitisers above the permitted benzene limit
Valisure analysed 260 hand sanitiser bottles from 168 brands. Of these, 21 bottles, or 8% of the products tested, contained benzene above the limit set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for hand sanitisers. Valisure then asked the FDA to recall some of the contaminated products immediately and to update its guidelines As part of the analysis, PURELL® Hand Sanitisers were also tested and found to have no detectable levels of benzene.
