World Toilet Day 2023 - a day for the loo and clean hands

There are many weird and wonderful holidays in the world, but one that falls into the "unusual but important" category is World Toilet Day, celebrated on 19 November. This day reminds us how important it is to value our sanitation and how much hygiene can help prevent the outbreak and spread of disease. A good third of the world's population does not have the means to visit a toilet. The lack of such hygienic sanitation facilities has a negative impact on the quality of drinking water. Moreover, their absence favours the spread of germs, viruses and bacteria through contaminated water. The World Toilet Organisation is striving to improve sanitation worldwide and is doing important educational work to this end, including campaign days such as World Toilet Day.

Why should we care about our toilets?

The toilet is one of the most basic elements in our everyday lives. On average, we spend about three years of our lives in the "quiet lavatory". It is a place of privacy, relaxation and sometimes even inspiration (we all know how often the best ideas come to us on the toilet). But even though it is a place of relief, we should not treat it lightly. Clean and well-maintained toilets are crucial to our health and well-being. They help prevent the spread of disease and contribute to a more pleasant living environment.

The importance of hand cleansing and sanitising

When we talk about the importance of clean toilets, we should definitely not forget our hands. Because as the saying goes, "don't forget to wash your hands", especially after going to the toilet. Our hands are and will remain the main carriers of pathogens, from a harmless cold to gastrointestinal viruses, to more dangerous diseases. Therefore, they should always be cleaned thoroughly and with soap. If there is no sink or soap at hand, hand sanitising can be a good alternative. Fast, thorough, safe, whether on site or on the road.

Keep your toilet in good shape and pay attention to your hand hygiene. Your health and the health of those around you will thank you!
