Global Hand Washing Day 2022: Don't forget to wash your hands!

Our hands press, point, touch, grip and perform so many other vital services for us, every day single day. Whether at work, at play, or during all activities in between, during the course of the day our hands come into contact with all kinds of surfaces, people and things. In the process, they not only pick up dirt, but also the odd invisible pathogen, especially in autumn and winter. But what can we do about it? Not touching things is not a viable option, but washing your hands frequently absolutely is. Global Hand Washing Day, which falls on Saturday 15th October this year, is intended to draw attention to the relevance of regular handwashing. But on any other day of the year, of course, don't forget to wash your hands!

Are you washing your hands correctly?

You might be thinking: "every child knows how to do that." In this country, everyone has certainly been told often enough to wash their hands during childhood, for example, before lunch. But does everyone really wash their hands thoroughly enough? The recommended time to ensure hands are clean is at least 20 seconds. Hand on heart, who stands at the basin washing throughout the time needed to sing "Happy Birthday"? Let’s be honest, not many of us. And yet, thorough hand hygiene is so important for eliminating pathogens and dirt.

Effective against dirt and as protection against diseases

Thorough hand washing with soap, for at least 20 seconds, easily removes most pathogens. This prevents transmission of infectious diseases, which is especially important in autumn and winter, when colds and flu circulate. If you touch your mouth, nose or eyes without washing your hands, you can transfer pathogens you’ve picked up and an infection can easily occur. So, not only do clean hands naturally look more appealing, they also essential in terms of hygiene and protection against infections.

Sanitising as a supportive measure

Germ reduction can also be achieved through the use of hand sanitiser. In particular, PURELL® Advanced Hygienic Hand Rub is especially suited for regular use, as it kills 99% of germs, and at the same time cares for the hands. Whether in foam or gel form, hand sanitising can provide a good opportunity for impromptu hand cleansing, particularly in the workplace or in public places where practical dispensing systems are often provided.

Let's remember the message of World Hand Wash Day 2022 and do a little more together for universal hand hygiene this winter!
